Around a year ago today, I decided that becoming a live-in nanny would be the best way for me to save money and live in London at the same time. I went through different options, and it seemed that if I didn't pursue this route, I would either have to sacrifice finances or being in London, neither of which I really wanted to do! Clearly, though, being a live-in Nanny poses its own challenges, which you don't face in the same way if you're renting and living independently of your workplace. It wasn't the easiest option, but it allowed me to get to where I wanted to be financially. I would quite like to write more about my experience, just to provide any advice for people considering doing the same thing, and may do a separate blog post about that.
I've had the urge to write a blog post about my updated situation for a few days, since I finished the job and moved out, really, which was 3 days ago. Right now, I am sat in a café in Herne Hill which looks over Brockwell park and for the first time basically since I have lived in the area, I feel relaxed and happy, which is ironic because I am leaving to start my travels in 3 weeks! But I am obviously excited about that, too.
My last official day of Nannying was Friday (today is Tuesday of the next week) and my Mum helped me move out the day after, on Saturday. I feel extremely lucky, as I've been able to stay around the area, as one of my friends Rae and her family, have allowed me to move into their home for a few weeks before I leave.
Since then, I've been mostly sleeping (ha) because I haven't felt very well which isn't ideal! Turns out I have a small external ear infection which I'm sure I contracted from Brockwell Lido, where I basically lived during the heatwave. But apart from that I've been settling into Rae's, and organising my next few weeks, as well as seeing friends.
I am hoping to write on this a lot more from now on, especially as an update on my travels. I am also currently doing some freelance writing for a Tech start-up company, and have been set 3 articles to write within a month, so that's going to keep me very busy along with packing and organising travelling! Here is the first article I wrote for them, if you're interested!
So, I guess I am not completely unemployed! I will be keeping busy, but will be getting some chill time in too. I feel so much happier being where I am now, and I feel extremely grateful for my friends here for being so present and supportive over the last year.
